1 ) About EM2006 in Geldrop, you lost the European title on eternit, could you tell us where
did you lost the 4 missing points ?
Au championnat d’Europe à Geldrop, tu as perdu le titre sur eternit, peux-tu nous dire où tu penses avoir perdu les 4 points qu’il t’a manqué ? |

Well, first I don’t really feel like losing the European Title. I got more then I could hope for
when the tournament started. I played very well, especially on concrete. I knew my weakness
would be on eternit because I didn’t play well there for quite some time now. But of course,
when you see my average and compare it to Harald, I lost a lot of points there. I would say at
that on the eternit I lost it at the end of the course and at the “double hill”, where I only made
1 or 2 aces. But at the end I have to be satisfied with the 3rd place, and I am!
Bon, tout d’abord, je ne pense pas avoir réellement perdu le titre de champion d’Europe. J’ai fais plus que ce que je pouvais espérer au début du tournoi. J’ai très bien joué, surtout sur béton. Je savais que ma faiblesse serait sur éternit car je ne joue pas très bien sur cette surface depuis quelques temps. Mais bien sur, quand on voit ma moyenne et qu’on la compare à celle de Harald (ndlr : Erlbruch, champion d’Europe 2006), on voit que j’ai perdu beaucoup de points sur éternit. A ce propos, je pense avoir perdu beaucoup de points sur la fin du parcours et plus particulièrement aux 2 bosses, où je n’ai fais que un ou 2 as. Mais en final, je devrais être satisfait de ma 3ème place et je le suis ! |

I started playing when I was very young, my parents and my brother played it already when I
wasn’t even born. In all those years I became sort of addicted to the sport. I can’t do without
it. In 1996 I played my first European Junior Championship, I was only 12 at that time. From
that time I haven’t missed any JEM/JWM until I became too old. All these years I learned to
enjoy the sport while playing at a high level. When you enjoy it, or at least try to, you will
find out that you will get the level you have. At the moment I am quite busy with my college,
so I can’t play that much, but still go 6-7 times a year to play in Sweden and whenever I have
the time I will play a tournament. One big thing to like minigolf is the contacts you make
around the world.
J’ai commencé de jouer quand j’étais très jeune, mes parents et mon frère jouaient déjà avant même que je sois né. Au fur et à mesure de ces années, je suis devenu un accro de ce sport. Je ne pouvais faire sans lui. En 1996, j’ai joué mes 1er championnats d’Europe Junior, je n’avais alors que 12 ans. A partir de là, je n’ai plus jamais manqué un championnat d’Europe ou du monde junior jusqu'à ce que je devienne trop vieux pour les faire. Durant toutes ces années, j’ai appris à aimer ce sport quand il était joué à haut niveau. A partir de ce moment là, je ne pouvais plus me contenter du niveau que j’avais. En ce moment, je suis pas mal occupé par mes études et je ne peux plus jouer autant qu’avant mais encore 6 ou 7 fois par an, je vais jouer en Suède et quand j’ai le temps, je fais d’autres tournois. Une des choses fantastiques dans le monde du minigolf, c’est les contacts que tu te fais tout autour du monde. |

3 ) I Think you're living in Sweden, could you tell me why ?
Je crois que tu vis en Suède, peux tu nous dire pourquoi ? |

I don’t live in Sweden anymore. I lived there for some months in 2004 but after failing to get
a job I returned to the Netherlands and decided to go back to college. Before I lived there I
came there quite often already, not always to play minigolf, but also on holiday (summer,
skiing etc). After a couple of years working and doing nothing in the Netherlands I really
wanted to do something else, so I decided to try to live in Sweden, all for the experience.
That’s also the reason I want to go to Australia ones for a longer time. When I decided to go
there I already had some talks with Jan Strandberg about playing for Tantogardens. They
liked to have me in the team and in return they helped me with a place to stay.
Je ne vis pas du tout en Suède. J’y ai vécu quelques mois en 2004 mais n’y ayant pas trouvé de travail, je suis revenu en Hollande et j’ai décidé de reprendre mes études. Après avoir vécu là bas, j’aime y retourner régulièrement, pas seulement pour le minigolf, mais aussi en vacances (été, ski, etc). Après quelques années à plus ou moins travaillé en Hollande, je voulais vraiment trouvé autre chose et c’est pourquoi j’ai décidé de partir vivre en Suède, pour l’expérience. C’est aussi pour cela que je voudrais aller en Australie pour un petit moment. Quand j’ai décidé d’aller vivre en Suède, j’ai discuté avec Jan Standberg (ndlr : sélectionneur de l’équipe nationale de suède et l’un des tout meilleurs joueurs au monde) sur l’opportunité de jouer pour Tantogardens (ndlr : un des 2 principaux clubs de Suède avec Uppsala). Il souhaitait m’avoir dans l’équipe et en compensation, il m’aidait à trouver un endroit pour vivre. |

4 ) Do you think you really made progress by playing with Tantogardens ?
Penses-tu avoir vraiment progressé depuis que tu joues pour Tantogardens ? |

I really think I made a big progress in Sweden while playing for Tanto. It is one of the best
Swedish clubs and to play with players like Alf Pettersson, Jan Strandberg, Johan Dyfvelsten
and Pierre Zetterlund it can only get better. Also the way we play in the competition is great
to improve your level. I learned (and still do) a lot of things and it’s great to play for
Tantogarden !
Je pense vraiment que j’ai fais de gros progrès depuis que je joue en Suède à Tantogardens. C’est l’un des meilleurs clubs suédois et avec des joueurs comme Alf Pettersson (ndlr : champion du monde 2001), Jan Strandberg, Johan Dyfvelsten et Pierre Zetterlund, je ne pouvais que progresser. Il y a aussi la façon d’aborder la compétition qui compte beaucoup pour augmenter son niveau. J’ai appris et je continue a apprendre beaucoup de chose et c’est vraiment super de jouer pour Tantogardens. |

5 ) You're the founder of minigolfpics, one of the most famous minigolf website, what is the
future of this website ?
Tu es le créateur de minigolfpics, l’un des meilleurs sites de minigolf, quel est l’avenir de ce site ? |

That’s correct. I founded the website some years ago by getting some pictures together of
different minigolfplayers. I thought I could make a website with these pictures so you could
see which faces go with what name. Already after some time I needed to get a bigger
webspace and more traffic so I needed to buy that. I got contacted by Paolo Porta and he
knew a good company to get that, that’s also when Paolo got to help me with the website.
Now a few years later Minigolfpics is one of the biggest and best known minigolf websites
there is. At the moment I don’t really have a lot of time to update the website and to renew it.
I am already working on a new design and on a new way to store the pictures on internet, so it
will be more nice for the visitors. But I don’t have a clue on when the website will be
finished. I definitely want to include videos again on the website, but only when the new
design is there. I can always need help, so if there is someone with PHP skills who speaks
English quite well, please mail me !
C’est correct. J’ai créé ce site il y a quelques années en prenant quelques photos avec d’autres joueurs de minigolf. Je pensais que ça pourrait être un site de photo pour mettre un visage sur un nom. Après quelques temps, j’ai eu besoin de plus d’espace sur le web et j’ai donc du l’acheter. J’ai alors été contacté par Paolo Porta qui connaissait une bonne compagnie pour cela et c’est ainsi que Paolo est venu m’aider sur ce site. Maintenant, après quelques années, minigolfpics est l’un des plus gros et des plus fréquentés site de minigolf. En ce moment, je n’ai pas beaucoup de temps pour mettre à jour le site et le renouveler. Je travaille aussi sur un nouveau design et sur une nouvelle façon de stocker des photos sur internet qui sera plus sympa pour les visiteurs. Mais je n’ai pas d’idée sur quand ce site sera finit. Je veux aussi inclure des vidéos sur ce site mais seulement quand le nouveau design sera prêt. J’ai toujours besoin d’aide, donc si quelqu’un s’y connait en PHP et parle anglais, qu’il me contacte ! |

6 ) In Geldrop, you proved that you're one of the best minigolf players in the world, how many
times do you spend for training and how many tournaments do you play each year ?
A Geldrop, tu as prouvé que tu étais l’un des tout meilleurs minigolfeurs au monde, combien de temps passes-tu à t’entrainer et combien de tournois joues-tu chaque année ? |

Thank you for the compliment. At this moment I don’t practise minigolf that much. Like I
said before I am quite busy with my college and it is hard to combine it. But in the summerperiod
I almost play every day and definitely practise 2 days before a tournament. I will have
a small break in the winter where I won’t play at all, and then I start again in February/March
to prepare for the next season. Then I will try to play every weekend. Each year I think I play
about 10-12 tournaments in total (including EM/WM).
Merci pour le compliment. En ce moment, je ne joue pas trop au minigolf. Comme je l’ai dit plus haut, je suis pas mal occupé par mes études et c’est dur de combiner les 2. Mais en été, je joue quasiment tout les jours surtout 2 jours avant un tournoi. Je fais un petit break l’hiver où je ne joue pas du tout et je recommence en février/mars à me préparer pour la saison suivante. J’essaye alors de jouer chaque week-end. Chaque année, je joue environ 10 à 12 tournois (en comptant les championnats d’Europe et du monde). |

7 ) Who is for you the best players (men and women) in Sweden and in the Netherlands ?
Qui sont pour toi les meilleurs joueurs et joueuses en Suède et en Hollande ? |

There are a lot of good players nowadays. It’s hard to say who is the best but I would say in
Sweden: Jan Strandberg, Carl-Johan Ryner and Anders Olsson are the best male players at the
moment and Karin Wiklund and Sandra Nordin are the best female players. In the
Netherlands I would say the best players are (besides me;)) Alex Jasper at the males and
Tryntsje Schakel and Natasja Klarenbeek at the female.
Il y a beaucoup de bons joueurs maintenant. C’est difficile de dire qui est le meilleur mais je pourrais dire en Suède : Jan Strandberg, Carl-Johan Ryner et Anders Olsson pour les hommes et Karin Wiklund et Sandra Nordin pour les filles. Pour la Hollande, en dehors de moi, je dirais Alex Jasper pour les hommes et Tryntsje Schakel et Natasja Klarenbeek pour les femmes. |

8 ) The balls are very important in our sport. How many balls have you? For you, how many
balls are necessary to play on eternit, concrete and felt ?
Les balles sont très importantes dans notre sport. Combien en as-tu ? Pour toi, combien de balles sont nécessaires pour jouer correctement sur éternit, béton et filz ? |

I have got around 300-320 balls at the moment. I have had more, but I sold some in the last
year. I have the advantage that Tantogarden owns a lot of balls, so we play a lot with those. It
really depends on the course how much you need. But normally I play about 15-16 different
balls on eternity and concrete and about 6-8 on felt. When you play a lot of felt you will see
that it is mostly the same balls you play everywhere. On eternity and concrete it could be very
different. I would say I have about 50 balls I play regularly.
J’ai environ 300 à 320 balles en ce moment. J’en ai eu plus, mais j’en ai vendu ces dernières années. J’ai l’avantage que le club de Tantogardens possède beaucoup de balles et je joue donc beaucoup avec ces balles. Le nombre nécessaire dépend vraiment du terrain. Normalement, je joue 15 à 16 balles différentes sur éternit et béton et 6 à 8 sur filz. Quand tu joues beaucoup sur filz, c’est quasiment toujours les mêmes balles que tu joues. Sur éternit et béton, c’est vraiment différent. Je peux dire que j’ai environ 50 balles que je joue régulièrement. |

9 ) I saw on the minigolfpics forum that you like sports in general. Who is your 5 favourites
sportsmen and women ?
J’ai vu sur minigolfpics que tu aimais bien le sport en général. Qui sont tes sportifs masculins et féminins préférés ? |

I love sports in general. I try to watch a lot of sports and specially football. I support
Feyenoord Rotterdam and although it is about 3 hours from where I live I go to every home
match and try to visit some away matches aswell. So that is my number 1 favourite team! I
don’t really have favourite sportsmen and women. At most sports I am quite neutral. I love to
watch and it doesn’t matter really who wins. With football it is different. There I have only 1
favourite team and I like a few teams from foreign countries, Liverpool FC from England,
Celtic from Scotland.
J’aime le sport en général. J’essaye de regarder beaucoup de sport et plus particulièrement le foot. Je supporte le Feyenoord Rotterdam et bien que ce soit à 3 heures d’où j’habite, je vais voir tout les matchs à domicile et aussi quelques uns à l’extérieur. C’est mon équipe favorite ! Sinon, je n’ai pas vraiment de sportifs préférés. Dans la plupart des sports, je suis neutre. J’aime regarder sans vraiment m’intéresser à qui gagne. Avec le foot, c’est différent. J’ai vraiment une équipe favorite et j’aime bien quelques équipes étrangères comme Liverpool en Angleterre et le Celtic Glasgow en Ecosse. |

10 ) To finish, a question out of minigolf. Could you tell me what the dutch people think about
the french people (a lot of person comes from the Netherlands in France for holidays)

Well I have only been in France for 2 times. Ones I’ve been in Paris (I was very young then)
and the second time was last year in Val Thorens (wintersport). But I know some people that
go to France a lot on holiday. They really like the country, but sometimes they can’t stand the
people. The prejudice of the French people here in the Netherlands are that they are quite
arrogant and that they only speak French, but they say the last thing is changing. But it can’t
be too bad because they keep coming! The French people I met (which talks English) are nice
people, but quite shy.
Bon, je suis seulement allé en France 2 fois. Une fois j’étais à paris (j’étais très jeune) et la seconde fois, c’était l’an dernier à Val Thorens (sport d’hiver). Mais je connais quelques personnes qui vont en vacances en France. Ils aiment beaucoup ce pays, mais parfois, ils ne comprennent pas les gens. Le préjudice des français ici en Hollande est qu’ils sont arrogants et qu’ils ne parlent que français mais a priori, c’est en train de changer. Mais ça ne doit pas être mal puisqu’ils continuent à y aller ! Les français que j’ai rencontré et qui parlent anglais sont des gens sympas, mais un peu timides. |
